I am a wife and a mother to two adult children.
I have lived in NSW, TAS and now in WA. I used to consider myself as a little bit of a Gypsy, not really staying in one place for long, but, we seem to have really settled into WA. What a beautiful state this is. Well...all of Australia is such a fantastic place with so much to offer those that want to get out and see it.
It all started in my late 30s when I decided that I would get a motorcycle license. This was very nerve racking. I have always been on the back of the bike with my Husband (Jeff), but now I was getting on alone. I wanted to do this so badly that I jumped in, both feet.
My first bike was a little Hyasung 250. Great little bike for me to learn on. Jeff is a very experienced rider and was very diligent when teaching me to ride, and I should also mention very patient. I went through all the process and finally got to ride alone. One afternoon on my way home from work, I had a little mishap with a car tuning into my lane from a side street. Bike was written off, but, thankful to the protective gear that I was wearing, (Jeff was very persistent on the gear), no permanent injuries were sustained. This really knocked my confidence and I didn't ride for some time. My bike was replaced with a CBR250 which my son mostly rode.
Two years later I decided that it was time to take the plunge again. I did some riding with Jeff to get my confidence back up and then took the trip alone to work. Now, work is not far, only 15-20min away from home. I did this ride quite regularly and on occasions Jeff would come into work and we would go on some rides around the area.
I then decided that it was time for something a little bigger, now I still have my restricted license and do not have the confidence to have an open license at this time, but, still wanted to have something bigger.
Along came my Vulcan S 650. And I love it.
Signing myself and Jeff up to the Ulysses club, seemed like a good idea at this point. Now, I didn't really know what to expect from this venture with the club, but, the experience that I have gained from going on rides to places that we have never been before has been priceless. With the confidence that I was gaining from the club rides, we then decided that a big trip on our bikes would be a great holiday.
So we traveled from WA to SA and to NSW and then back again. This was a 6 week trip on our bikes and staying in the swag along the way. Since being back from this trip we have been on some other smaller trips around WA and are planning more for next year.
In the prep for this trip and the future trips to come , I was needing to get more gear that would be comfortable for the long days. I found it very difficult to find items that were safe and fitted woman. Everything that I came across was unisex. As I became more and more frustrated with the availability for safe gear that fitted a woman correctly, I decided that I would look further and Ladies Motorcycle Gear was born. As I find the items I will certainly share them with you all and hopefully you will find something you like.
I certainly describe myself as a novice. I am certainly addicted to the ride and the journey, then I am to the bike itself. The feeling of riding on long and short journey's is certainly the best feeling. I have, this year, joined the Ulysses Club. Travelled by bike from WA to SA and NSW, travelled around WA and making plans for more big rides next year. We all need to be doing more of what we enjoy!
